Infinity pools have become popular over the last few years and it is understandable why. They are one of the most visually impressive pool options available. Infinity pools offer an edge that seems to vanish into the surrounding scenery. Infinity pools are meant to almost disappear into the site line when you are standing on the opposite side of the pool.5 Maintenance Tips for Infinity Pools

When it comes to maintaining infinity pools there are some special needs that your infinity pool will have.

Here are some helpful pool maintenance tips for infinity pools

The catch basin will require cleaning

Just beyond the infinity edge of the pool is a second basin meant to catch the water that spills out over the “invisible” wall. This water will then feedback into the pool system. The catch basin on the outside of the pool wall will need to be cleaned routinely just like the rest of the pool to keep it in its best shape and prevent unwanted build-up.

Make sure to keep the drain clear

There is a suction system associated with the catch basin and it needs attention to make sure it does not become clogged. As the water circulates through this area there will be debris that accumulates in the area and can block the system which can cause even bigger issues.

Keep the pool topped off

An infinity pool only looks impressive when it has plenty of water to be at the tippy top of that outer invisible pool wall. As water flows over the outer edge of this wall into the catch basin it tends to evaporate at a quicker pace as compared to a standard swimming pool. An infinity pool has a design meant to keep water flowing continuously along this invisible wall. This means you will need to add water more frequently as compared to a standard pool to keep it at the right level.

Closely monitor water chemistry

Since water evaporates at a quicker pace than in other pools and you will need to refill the pool more often you will also need to pay extra attention to the chemical levels and balance of your water. Ideally, infinity pools should be tested about twice a week to ensure that the pool water is within its perfect balance and to keep it safe for swimming.

Don’t forget about the pump

A pump is a very crucial component of a well-running infinity pool. The pump keeps the water in the infinity pool flowing from the catch basin back to the main pool. You want to make sure you are keeping an eye on the pump’s performance and make sure that it is not slowing down or getting louder. You also want to make sure it is not making weird noises or completely stops working. A pump that is not working correctly means that the important flow in your infinity pool is not properly working either.
